Wicks for candles
A wick for wax candles is one of the main elements when creating candles with your own hands. A correctly selected wick will ensure uniform combustion of wax or paraffin and will not fail during use, which means that the planned candlelit dinner will take place in a favorable environment.
WICKS FOR WAX CANDLES
If you prefer to use cotton wicks for candles, pay attention to the thickness (diameter) of the wick itself. A wick made of natural threads with a small diameter of 1.5 mm is intended for thin candles, the diameter of which is up to 10-15 mm; they are also poured into large wide candles for several lights. If you plan to cast candles with a diameter of up to 30 mm, you should choose a wick with a diameter of up to 2 mm. Well, for wide candles with a diameter of over 30 mm, you should give preference to thick wicks. Take a closer look, if the chosen strand for a woven candle has a braid - place it in the candle so that the letter V is read from bottom to top. Then the candle will burn correctly. Before filling the wick with wax or paraffin, make sure the cotton threads are dry. If the cord is damp, the candle will simply crack, and the threads will not connect well with the material of the candle. It is recommended to dry the wick and additionally soak it in wax or paraffin; such preparatory work will allow the candle to “make friends” with the wick faster.
