Oils are the basis of most homemade cosmetics: creams, lip balms, body butters, hair and massage oils. The choice of oil determines how nourishing a product will be, how quickly it absorbs, and what texture it will have.

This section features oils used in cosmetics. Liquid carrier oils are suitable for creams and serums. Solid butters—such as shea or cocoa butter—impart a rich, nourishing texture to balms. Water-soluble oils blend with water, making them ideal for toners and bath products. Essential oils add fragrance and provide skincare benefits. Most oils are available in both refined versions (odorless) and unrefined versions (retaining their natural scent and maximum nutrient content).
